Science Teachers' Association

Greetings  From  the  President's Desk

Greetings - Hope everyone is off to a great school year and no teacher was left behind in professional development this summer.  With the Math and Science Teachers Conference coming up sooner then you think, its time to get those proposals for presentations in.  The Joint Committee will be meeting in early November to start assigning rooms and times.  Late proposals will be accepted , but choice of room and time become very limited.  We are also still looking for members to fill the office of president in 04 and treasurer in 05.  If you are interested or know of someone that is interested in these positions contact someone on the board.  If you know of any other professional development that is happening here in the state, let the newsletter editors know so that it can be placed in the newsletter.
I attended a workshop at NASA Langley this summer and was disappointed to find out that it was being cut due to a lack of funds due to the war in Iraq and the shuttle disaster.
As you have opportunity to communicate with our congressional member be sure you put in a good word for the necessity of professional development for educators in science.   Locally  the

J.A.M.E.S. Project from USD wasn't funded due to more money going to improve test scores in math and reading.  Lets hope that when science is added to the testing in 2005 that this loss of funds ceases.
Hope to see many of you in Huron this February for a great
conference.
